About the TeamThe User Experience team researches, designs and engineers the user experience for the SS&C Advent suite of products used by asset management and alternative investment professionals worldwide. We have a small and growing team of skilled UX designers who work across our suite of product lines to create compelling, end-to-end user experiences that deliver measurable business and customer outcomes.
About the RoleThe User Experience Director will report into the head of Product Development and is responsible for strategic oversight of the UX Design team, inspiring the team to partner across our business to tackle the complexities that come with designing enterprise financial software. This role will oversee the UX Design team and partner across research, strategy development, product definition and design. We are looking for a strategic leader, product owner and team player. Our ideal candidate is excited about the opportunity to elevate design in our organization, push forward through challenges, and help to shape the UX team within our organization through management and mentoring of the team members.
What you’ll do:
Advise senior business leaders within the Product Development organization, partnering with them to lay out the strategic direction for user experience and design across both existing and future-focused product lines and platforms.Establish forward-looking vision and technical direction across product lines. Break down the vision into meaningful strategic initiatives that can be realized and add marked value along the way. Deeply collaborate across disciplines–product management, technology, client-facing teams and direct client partnerships to deliver high value end-to-end solutions.Lead, mentor, and grow our team, with a focus on partnering with and leveraging the existing synergies and individual strengths of people working together, and creating team confidence and enthusiasm. Ensure design is consistent with our UX guidelines and approved interaction patterns.Lead the design of user experience using participatory and iterative design techniques, including customer interviews, usability testing, and other forms of requirements discovery.Transcend traditional ideas, bringing breakthrough creative processes, ideas, and new ways of collaborating across disciplines to client work.Lead and grow our design efforts around research, testing, validation–and establish metrics for success.Own tools and processes for design & research execution, documentation, and collaboration.Be the leading voice to advocate and communicate UX and design strategy to stakeholders.
What we’d like to see:
Strong design instincts, a deep understanding of interaction design, user-centered experience design, and creative process fundamentals.Readiness to set design and creative direction, and promote design principles.Engaging presentation style and visual communication skills — someone who is excited about the work their team is doing and knows how to spread that enthusiasm.Keen interest in owning big interaction problems and providing the thought leadership vital to drive them toward success by collaborating with product owners and engineers. Ability to lead a user-centered discovery phase for projects, such as running workshops and facilitating discussions with partners.Experience integrating design workflows with agile teamsBA/BS required, Masters in a design related discipline preferred.Previous experience with design system creation and management preferred.Previous experience with designing enterprise financial technology preferred.10+ years’ experience in a user experience and/or design field.
